About The Long Island University International Connections Web Site

Long Island University, now encompassing six campuses in the metropolitan New York City/Long Island area has grown to be one of the largest, multi-campus private institutions of higher learning in the United States. Long Island University boasts a total enrollment of more than 26,000 students, over 600 full-time faculty, and almost 4,000 full-and part-time employees. They represent a diversity of nationalities and cultures from all parts of the world.

Over 600 international students a year come to Long Island University to enhance their education. Similarly, LIU students have many opportunities to receive credit for study-abroad. With the increasing globalization of business, students with international know-how not only benefit from the personal growth from contact with and understanding of other people and cultures, but they benefit from increased employment opportunities. As a result of this, the University Committee on International Study and Programs recognized the need to consolidate the vast amount of information pertaining to Long Island University's diverse resources, and to make this information globally accessible.

The goal of the Long Island University International Connections Web Site is to gather together, by country, information about Long Island University related to international study, culture, and interest. The purposes of the web-site are:

  1. to identify and celebrate Long Island University's involvement and relationships with the countries and cultures of the world;
  2. to promote and develop relations and activities abroad;
  3. to support and encourage our international students and alumni;
  4. to facilitate recruitment of international students; and
  5. to broaden the worldview of American students.

Your comments, stories, and other items of interest are welcome in our effort to make this web site as interesting and informative as possible. We look forward to hearing from you.
