How do I get started?

  1. Text the word, "askpost", to 66746. The keyword is not case sensitive.
  2. You should receive the automated reply: "Your message has been posted! Powered by Mosio. Reply HELP for info. To stop receiving answers, reply STOP. Standard messaging charges apply. Terms & Conditions are at:"
  3. Save 66746 in your contacts as "askPost".
  4. Text your question to 66746. Text-A-Librarian will now recognize your phone, so you do not need to include the "askpost".

Is there a cost to use this service?
We do not charge a fee, but your phone company will charge you your regular rate for sending and receiving messages.

Who can use the service?
This service is intended for Long Island University students, faculty, staff, alumni, and others affiliated with the University. Patrons unaffiliated with the University will be assisted with brief questions about Long Island University and its unique collections. However, unaffiliated patrons with questions that can be answered at their own local public or university library may be referred to such organizations.

What kinds of questions are inappropriate for the service?
Extensive research questions are beyond the scope of this service. If you have such a question, we invite you to visit us during library hours. Detailed directions are available on the campus web site. If you need to request a book or article through interlibrary loan, contact Interlibrary Loan Services at 516-299-2898. If your question concerns checkouts, renewals, holds, or fines contact the Circulation Desk at 516-299-2303.

Who answers the questions?
Questions are answered by Reference Librarians from the B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library at LIU Post.

What if I can't get through or no one answers?
If a librarian is unavailable, you always have the option of calling the Reference Desk at 516-299-2305, 2306 or 2832 during library hours, or asking your question via e-mail.
