Over the past several years, the Instructional Media Center has developed an important multicultural resources collection. The collection is comprised of children's trade books (both fiction and non-fiction), as well as bibliographies and resource/activity books for students, teachers, and librarians. The children's trade books cover subjects such as folklore, geography and history, and culture. The professional collection includes significant publications such as : Our Family, Our Friends, Our World by Lyn Miller-Lachmann, Against Borders by Hazel Rochman, Appreciating Diversity Through Children's Literature: Teaching Activities for the Primary Grades by Meridith McGowan, and The Multicultural Math Classroom: Bringing in the World by Claudia Zaslavsky.
The ESL (English as a second language) or TESOL (Teaching English to speakers of other languages)collection at IMC is used by education students in connection with their courses and by international students to improve their English. Especially helpful are textbooks accompanied by audiocassettes. The IMC also constantly updates its professional books and is in the process of acquiring videocassettes for the TESOL faculty and students.
