- A detailed account of the General Slocum, a steam boat that traveled around Long Island. The boat had
several occasions of trouble, the last being a large gasoline fire that killed many of the passengers. Captain Van
Schiack was charged for negligence and sent to prison for a short term sentence. Middle Neck is where many of
the dead are buried.
