Healthcare Sector Management Programs (WGC) and

The Westchester and Rockland Graduate Campuses are proud to announce our newest programs: the Healthcare Sector Management Concentration in the MBA program in Westchester and the Entrepreneurship Concentration in Rockland.
Two options will be offered:
Option A: The Advanced Certificate in either Healthcare Sector Management or Entrepreneurship.
Those who wish to earn advanced credentials, but do not choose to pursue the MBA degree, can enroll in one of the Advanced Certificate Programs. Certificate candidates must complete four Healthcare Sector Management courses or four Entrepreneurship courses for a total of 12 graduate credits in the concentration.
Option B: The MBA Degree with a Healthcare Sector Management or Entrepreneurship Concentration.
Students entering the MBA Program will follow the usual 48 credit curriculum, normally completed by part-time students over a 24 month period. Year I courses will include six “General Business Core” courses and five “Advanced Core” courses. In Year II, students will complete either four Healthcare Sector Management courses or four Entrepreneurship courses.
All courses, as always, will be taught by faculty practitioners with advanced degrees and extensive experience in senior level policy-and decision-making positions. For more information please contact Dr. Lynn Johnson at the Westchester Graduate Campus (914)831-2711 or email lynn.johnson@liu.edu or Prof. Ken Reilly at the Rockland Graduate Campus (845)359-7200 ext. 5408 or email ken.reilly@liu.edu.

Summer FLES (Foreign Language in the Elementary School) Course
In Summer 2010, our campus offered a totally online course for foreign language teachers wishing to extend their certification to the elementary grades.
The course, TED 569 – Teaching Languages Other than English in Childhood, will be offered again in Summer 2011.
This course will meet regularly in a virtual classroom and other work will take place in Blackboard.
Training is required and students must attend one of two in person training sessions.
After completing this course successfully, currently certified language teachers will become eligible for the NYS LOTE (Languages Other than English) Extension in the language in which they are certified. Commonly referred to as the FLES Extension, this credential is valuable today as many districts are adding language programs for young learners.
For more information, contact Dr. Marshall, helaine.marshall@liu.edu.
WGC Launches New Online Program
Our campus has launched its first completely online program, a New York State Teaching Extension in Bilingual Education. The program is designed for certified teachers who are bilingual and are currently teaching - or would like to teach - in a bilingual setting. The program is identical to the face-to-face Bilingual Extension and consists of 15 credits. Students from throughout New York State can enroll in this program. Those who are currently teaching in a Bilingual Education or Dual Language Program may be eligible for the Intensive Teacher Institute (ITI) scholarship program sponsored by BOCES. The program runs as a collaborative initiative of the Westchester and Brooklyn campuses and is taught by faculty from both campuses. The first group of students completed their online Bilingual Education Extension in May 2009. Interested students should contact program director, Dr. Helaine W. Marshall at 914-831-2713 or by email at helaine.marshall@liu.edu. Click here to read the press release about this exciting new program!
The NYCDOE (New York City Department of Education) requires teacher applicants to complete an online application at www.teachnyc.net. Students are encouraged to complete their applications as soon as possible because volume gets heavy as we enter into Spring. Most applications are placed in an online search tool which students can use to search for jobs and which principals use to locate prospective teachers.
TURNITIN.COM Turnitin.com is an online service used to ensure that a student's writing complies with the appropriate paraphrasing and citation rules. Your professor may decide to utilize the service this semester. Please click here to print a Turnitin.com consent form which will be kept on file for all WGC classes. Please hand in your signed form at the front desk.
